COMPRESSION MOULD

As its name implies, compression moulding is the manufacturing process of material compressed into a mould to produced part. It is used for both thermoplastics and thermosetting plastics. When it comes to thermoplastics, it usually refers to the rubber vulcanization method. A large amount of rubber placed in the mould cavity under the high pressure and temperature, and it is suitable for low quantity production, sometimes we call it proto mould. But today, we will be talking about the compression mould for thermosetting plastics which are widely used for serial production.
Like injection moulding process, the compression moulding process also involves three parts, the material, the mould and the compression machine that used to mould part.
The material we used in compression mould is what we often called composite material.

Sheet or bulk moulding compound (SMC or BMC), as well as the thermoplastic materials such as glass mat thermoplastics (GMT), long Fibre thermoplastics and direct (LFT or LFTD) are the most common composite material used in compression moulding technologies.

The compression machines are usually referred to as compression presses which is hydraulic driven. Machine is vertically sitting on the floor with straight lock up system. The lower half mould sitting stationed to the machine clamping plate while the upper half moves all the time. The mould closed with top force coming from machine, pressure is applied to force the material into contact with all the mould area while heat and pressure are maintained until the moulding material has cured; when time is up, the mould open, part being ejected or removed.
Variable pressure can be used during the mould close phase. A shear edge zone in the perimeter of the cavity enables air to pass through, the small amount of material that escapes through the sheer edge results in “flash”. Flash is necessary by-product of compression moulding due to the needs to expel air during the moulding process by overfilling the mould cavity. Compression parts need to be de-flashed to have good finish.

Compression moulding is used in various industrial sectors. The excellent mechanical properties such as flame retardant make the composite very popular in making parts include hoods, fenders, panels, spoiler, doors, and battery cases in automotive. In sanitary industry, we were surrounded by object that were manufactured by composite due to it is surface aesthetics, water resistance, such as bathtub, shower base, washbasin, toilet.
To obtain high quality products, it is important to optimize the mould design and processing conditions, and Toolex is your best choice. In 2010, Toolex were approached by a large Australian caravan conglomerate who was seeking solution for the supply of complete SMC assembled product. In involves mould design and manufacturing, moulding component, de-flashing, drilling, surface coating, assembly, stock and quality control. We have successfully produced over half million products that have become one of their key supplier with an unblemished record of quality and service. The various compression parts have become an industry standard in Australia.
China mould maker, specialized in producing injection and compression mould. We are very professional in making SMC, BMC, GMT mould.
